In keeping with the school's tradition, Holy Trinity students donned their best alter egos as part of the annual Halloween costume contest.
Since Halloween fell on a Thursday, the school moved Mass to the following Friday, All Saints Day, to allow students to continue the tradition.
“There were some very creative costumes that had taken a lot of time to make,” Principal Veronica Alonzo said.
All of the costumes were judged while the students were eating lunch in the cafetorium. Senior David Weisbruch announced all the contestants by grade level and then groups.
The students were judged by three of the teachers: Mrs. Cheryl Sanders, Ms. Molly Mikes, and Mrs. Jennifer Laxton.
“I was looking for originality, effort, and something different,” Ms. Mikes said after judging all of the contestants.
The winners in the freshman class were Reganne Pearce (a princess) and Jahanshah Farrokhnejad (the Scream). In the sophomore class, Joanna Fetherman (a minion) and Thomas Mosmeyer (Two-Face). Mariah Rios took the candy for the junior class as Elmo along with Travis Blackburn who was a nerd. Senior winners were Fernanda Duenas (Fronanda) and Ryan Boone (the Joker). The winners for the group contest were Andy Cyr and Andrea Reano as Geisha girls.
“Lots of the costumes were creative because of the makeup and hair,” Mrs. Sanders said. “All of the costumes were good but we chose the ones with the most creativity as winners.”
The students are allowed to dress up for Halloween each year, unlike some public schools. Dr. Alonzo believes it is good way to reward students for good behavior and allows the students to express themselves.
“It sets apart that day from all the other days of school,” Dr. Alonzo said. “It’s something fun to do, as long as the students don’t abuse it.”
