Biology
Prerequisites: 8th Grade Science
9th–10th Grades 2 semesters, 1 credit
Biology is a laboratory course that investigates biochemistry, microbiology, and the processes of cellular respiration and photosynthesis. Other processes covered are meiosis and mitosis, with special attention paid to gene expression and the mechanics of transcription, translation, and protein synthesis. Labs are conducted using microscopes, dissection, and investigative experiments in areas of zoology, anatomy, and physiology.
Chemistry
Prerequisites: Biology
10th–12th Grades 2 semesters, 1 credit
Chemistry explores the composition, structure, properties, and reactions of matter at the atomic and molecular level. Students learn how elements form complex entities, and determine the dynamic interrelationships of substances. The ability to properly measure, calculate, and apply the concepts are furthered through laboratory experimentation. Practical applications of chemistry concepts to daily life are stressed.
Physics
Prerequisites: Algebra I, Biology, and Chemistry
11th-12th Grades 2 semesters, 1 credit
Study of the physical world and the natural rules governing interaction with it in everyday life. Emphasis is placed on conceptual understanding supplemented with mathematical structure and problem solving techniques. Beginning with the scientific method, explores topics in mechanics, properties of matter, heat, sound, electromagnetism, light, nuclear physics, and relativity. Laboratory experiments and field trips are conducted to demonstrate selected concepts.
AP Biology
Prerequisities: Biology, Chemistry, and Algebra II with an 85 average in all three
12th Grade 2 semesters, 1 credit
Advanced Placement Biology is a higher level science course designed to offer studens a solid foundation in introductory college-level biology. By structuring the course around the four big ideas, enduring understandings, and science practices the teachers assists students in developing an appreciation for the study of life and helps them identify and understand unifying principles within a diversified biological world. This course is designed for students that have completed both first year biology and chemistry.
AP Chemistry
Prerequisities: Biology, Chemistry, and Algebra II with an 85 average in all three
11th or 12th Grade 2 semesters, 1 credit
Advanced Placement Chemistry is a laboratory-based, higher level science course designed to offer students a solid foundation in introductory college-level chemistry, but more importantly, come to understand the nature of the chemical world around us through questioning, experimentation, and analysis. The science practices used in this will enable students to develop and refine testable explanations and predictions of natural phenomena. this course is designed for students that have completed first year biology and chemistry.
Anatomy & Physiology
Prerequisities: Biology, Chemistry, and Algebra II with an 85 average in all three
12th Grade 2 semesters, 1 credit
This rigorous college-prepatory elective science course includes a study of human body systems. Homeostatic balance, the relationship between structure and function, and the interrelationships between body systems are a focus throughout the course. This course is recommended for students interested in a health-related career, especially those students who plan to study medicine, nursing, physical therapy, and athletic training. laboratory activities include a cat dissection to accompany the subject matter.
